The Netherlands has long been a hub for cross-border payments and digital banking platforms, with innovative FinTech companies leveraging technology to create cutting-edge solutions for businesses and individuals around the world. Technological innovation and evolving payment methods have thus influenced the Dutch payment system and led to a substantial decrease in the use of paper-based instruments.

In early 2021, approximately 27 million transactions were made with Dutch credit cards for cross-border payments, as per Statista. Dutch consumers increasingly used debit cards for their purchases as the volume of debit card payment transactions increased with every passing year. Leading reasons in the Netherlands to use credit cards domestically include online purchases, hotel reservations, and payments in restaurants.

Let’s look at five platforms offering cross-border digital banking services in the Netherlands.

Adyen is a global payment technology company based in Amsterdam, that offers a single platform for merchants to accept payments online, in-store, and on mobile devices. Its platform supports over 250 payment methods and 187 currencies.

Mollie is a Dutch payment service provider that offers merchants a range of payment methods, including credit card payments, bank transfers, and e-wallet payments. It also offers services for recurring payments and invoicing.

Amsterdam-based Payvision provides cross-border payment processing services for merchants. It offers a range of payment methods, including credit card payments, e-wallet payments, and bank transfers.

Buckaroo is a payment service provider based in Utrecht, Netherlands, that offers merchants a range of payment methods, including credit card payments, bank transfers, and e-wallet payments. It also offers services for recurring payments and invoicing.

Bitonic is a Bitcoin exchange and payment service provider based in Baarn, that allows customers to buy and sell bitcoins using a variety of payment methods, including bank transfers and iDEAL payments.
